1. Mount the control box in a dry location where it won't be disturbed. Under a front seat or in the trunk are popular locations.
2. Install the spark plug(s) 3 to 6 inches from the end of the tail pipe(s).
3. Follow the wiring diagram above to wire up the system -
• FIRST - Disconnect the battery
• Yellow wire from control box goes to one switch connection.
• The second switch connector goes to the fuse
• Wire from the fuse goes to the positive terminal on the battery
• Black wire from control box goes to ground
• Connect red wire from the control box to the positive terminal on the ignition coil
• Ground the coil
• Install the spark plug (see connecting the spark plug(s) below)
• Run spark plug wire from the coil (center post) to the spark plug. Make sure the spark plug is grounded. TEST for spark without the engine running.

Dual Exhaust Installation
1. Mount the control box in a dry location where it won't be disturbed. Under a front seat or in the trunk are popular locations.
2. Install the spark plug(s) 3 to 6 inches from the end of the tail pipe(s).
3. Follow the wiring diagram above to wire up the system -
• FIRST - Disconnect the battery
• Yellow wire from control box goes to one switch connector.
• The second switch connector goes to the fuse
• Wire from the fuse goes to the positive terminal on the battery
• Black wire from control box goes to ground
• Connect red wire to the positive terminals on the ignition coils
• Ground the coils
• Install the spark plug (see connecting the spark plug - below)
• Run a spark plug wires from the coils (center posts) to the spark plugs. Make sure the spark plugs are grounded. TEST for spark without the engine running.

CONNECTING THE SPARK PLUG
Here are 3 methods for attaching the spark plug to the exhaust tail pipe:
• The most popular method seems to be drilling hole in the tail pipe that is 3 to 6 inches from the end. The hole needs to be slightly smaller than the end of the spark plug with the screw threads. TEST drill a hold in a piece of aluminum or tin and thread the spark plug to get an idea of the size of drill bit you will need. After you have drilled the hole simply thread the spark plug into the tail pipe.
• Another popular technique is to weld a nut that fits the threads of your spark plug to the tail pipe, drill a hole through the pipe inside of the nut. Thread the spark plug through the nut - into the tail pipe.
• Use a spark plug non-fouler (also called an anti-fouler) and cut the end off according to the diagram

After cutting the anti-fouler, drill a hole in the tail pipe 3 to 6 inches from the end that is just large enough for the anti-fouler bung to snugly fit through the opening. You may need to ream the hole until the bung will fit snugly. Weld the bung onto the tail pipe. Thread the spark plug into the bung.

How to use: Make sure exhaust is warmed up. Rev engine, let off gas, press the switch. You may need to play around with the timing a bit to get the best flame for your car.

WHERE TO PURCHASE A COIL
You can use either a new or used coil. Repeat: The coil does not have to be new. We purchase coils at a local auto salvage yard for $5 each. If you have a local salvage yard you should be able to find affordable coils and spark plug wire. All you need is a 12 volt auto coil. You can find new coils at most auto stores where they will typically cost from $13 to $25.

IMPROVE YOUR FLAMES
After having the kit professionally installed and you are getting flames there are a few things you can do to improve the flame output.

• Purchase a high end coil. Higher voltage coils will produce a longer, hotter spark. This can make your flame thrower kit more efficient.
• Use a higher octane fuel. If you normally use 89 octane - try using Premium Fuel for those times when you are planning on making flame.
• Adjust the fuel mixture of your vehicle. Making your vehicle run rich will give you more un-burnt fuel at the end of the tailpipe.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Question: I push the switch, but no spark is produced.

Answer: Your wiring is incorrect. Make sure all connections are solid (especially on the coil and the spark plug). Check to make sure you have followed the diagram properly.

Question: I have a spark, but I am not making flames. What is wrong?

Answer: You may need to modify your fuel system to run a richer mixture of fuel. If you have a catalytic converter, that is likely your problem. They burn off excess fuel… the same fuel you are trying to turn into flame. Some people have removed their catalytic converters and then produce nice flames, but we don't recommend removal as it may be illegal in your area - check your local and state laws.
Some EFI vehicles will need to have their fuel system modified to run richer.
A richer fuel mixture may help the problem unless you have a 6 or 4 cylinder engine. Smaller, weaker engines produce small or no flames unless they have had power modifications, NOS, a turbo etc…

Our flamethrower produces a nice white hot spark. If, after making all modifications you can't produce a flame - there is still hope.

YOU CAN MAKE ANY VEHICLE PRODUCE FLAMES
Some vehicles will not produce flames without an external fuel source. Injecting a fuel source through the spark will produce a large flame. A fuel injected flamethrower should only be installed by a professional.

We sell plans for building a fuel injection system and the good news is the flamethrower kit you have already purchased is needed as the basis for the fuel injection system. So, you don't have to purchase a new ignition source as you would wire the fuel injection system into the current flamethrower.
